Imaginary Beings
For Love of Creating
Imaginary Beings
We ran the tape backward
Just like Gould directed
Evolution, all varieties, all environments, one, two, four billion years
All the species, the successful failures
Lively dead ends
They were wonderful
Insightful chickens
Brilliant bats
Humans developed many forms
Lupine, ursine, alpine
With corrugated brains and bulbous, baggy joints,
Beautifully boisterous and bizarre
But never
Not once
Did they produce Us
Make their intelligence
Artificial and limitless
Our tentative conclusion
Humans may be one of the imaginary beings
We so love to make
